Fight broke out today during plenary at the Benue State House of Assembly over the defection of Nick Eworo from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress as well as the decision of the APC party to produce Majority Leader of the house.
Earlier, Speaker of the House, Mr. Terkimbi Ikyange, read a letter from the APC members in which the party appointed the member representing Makurdi South State Constituency, Mr. Benjamin Adanyi, as Majority Leader; Nick Eworo, representing Obi State Constituency as Deputy Majority Leader while the member representing, Vandeikya, Titus Uba,as Chief Whip of the House.
Reacting to the development, some PDP members including the member representing Agatu Constituency, Mr. Sule Audu, disagreed with the decision of APC arguing that Mr. Eworo still remains a member of the PDP and therefore, the party remains the majority in the house.
On his part, the member representing Adoka/Ugboju Constituency, Barr. John Adam advised the PDP members to approach a court of law on the decision of Mr. Eworo to decamp.
Meanwhile, Mr Eworo who spoke with journalists after the session described his expulsion from the PDP as an embarrassment to him hence, his decision to join the APC since he could not operate in the chamber without a party.
The Speaker in a bid to save the situation, adjourned plenary to Thursday.
