The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday cleared former governor Prince Abubakar Audu and 27 other aspirants seeking its ticket for the Kogi State gubernatorial poll.
The party, however, warned that it will wield the big stick on any contender who engaged in violence.
Speaking on the clearance given to the aspirants in Abuja, National Organising Secretary, Sen. Osita Izunaso, said the high number indicated that APC is the most popular platform in the state.
As a proof that APC is the party to beat in Kogi, Izunaso said the outcome of March/April, 2015 elections which had the party winning the three senatorial seats, six out of the nine House of Representatives seats and contributed 75 per cent margin in the last presidential election showed APC’s popularity.
Other aspirants cleared for the primaries include Alhaji Yahaya Bello; Senator Alex Usman Kadiri; Hussein Idris Kashim; Alh. Sanusi Abubakar Aliyu (Gamji); Senator Nicholas Yahaya Ugbane; Sani Halilu Shuaibu; Suleman Baba Ali; AVM Saliu Atawodi; Muhammad Abdullahi; Senator Nuruddeen Abatemi Usman; the only female contestant, Princess Hadiza Ibrahim; Yakubu Mohammed, a former acting governor of the state, Hon.
