ORTOM FREES PRISONERS TO MARK NEW YEAR

In the spirit of the New Year, Governor Samuel Ortom, has approved the release of five inmates from Gboko Prison who have been serving various jail terms.

Those released are John Anyam, Dickson Ako, Terngu Agum, Aondonengen Msughve and Iorfa Mbakighir.

According to a statement signed by Chief Odeh Ageh, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, the Governor’s approval of the release of the inmates followed the recommendation by the Benue State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

According to the statement, Governor Ortom has also assured that the state will overcome the current challenges and move to the next level of development in 2016.

The Governor felicitated with the people of the state on the occasion of the New Year and reassured that a new Benue is being born because the initiatives of his administration are designed to serve as pillars of development now and in the years to come, Chief Ageh said.

The Governor joins the good people of the state in thanking God Almighty who he said has brought Benue this far, and for continually bestowing His Grace upon His people and for guiding the state safely through all the challenges of 2015.

The statement quoted the Governor as expressing gratitude to God and the people for giving him the mandate to govern the state.

According to the Governor, the steps his administration is taking to reposition the state through good governance, revenue security, agriculture-driven industrialization, quality education and health and provision of other critical infrastructure will help in securing the future for the state.

The Information Commissioner stated that Governor Ortom has urged the people of Benue to march into the New Year with confidence trusting in God that things will get better.
