Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has vowed to punish the ex-Director General, Service and Administration alleged to be behind what he described as illegality in Obi LGA.
According to the Governor, over 850 workers were illegally recruited by one man in his room.
His words: “One DGSA went, sat somewhere in his room and recruited his friends, associates and others, most of whom are not even from Obi, without recourse to the rule or law guiding employment in the third tier of government.”
To this end, the governor said he had therefore directed the Local Government Service Commission to carry out full investigation on the impasse in the LGC, with the view to punishing the culprit.
Governor Ortom who made the disclosure during a press conference at the New Banquet Hall of the People’s House, Makurdi on Thursday, said legitimate Obi workers numbering 775 had been duly screened and paid their bailout.
According to him, the 850 purported to have been denied bailout were the workers illegally employed by the said ex-DGSA.
It will be recalled that many workers in Obi LGA a fortnight ago protested non-payment of their bailout for the arears of their salaries.
They claimed the government owes them over 14 months salaries,
