Igede youths have written a reply accepting and commending the recent decision of their Idoma
counterparts endorsing Old Oju District for the forthcoming Benue South Senatorial Election.
The Idoma youths under the auspices of Idoma National Youth Forum, INYF, days ago ceded the 2019 senatorial slot to Igede people of Old Oju District on the basis of what they consider as equity, fairness and justice, thereby mandating the Igede people to throw up a credible candidate who would be acceptable to Idoma and Igede.
Igede youths’ reply was contained in a communiqué issued by the President of their umbrella organization, Igede National Youth Council, INYC, Comr. Onu Moses Onu.
Comr. Onu stated that the National Executive Council of INYC met at its National Secretariat for an Emergency Executive Session on August 23, 2017 to “analyse and respond accordingly to a communique issued by the Idoma National Youth Forum after its General Assembly meeting on August 20, 2017,” at the end of which the communiqué was issued and a copy was made available to jamesibechi.com.
According to the communiqué: the National Executive Committee’s session resolved inter alia:
“That the Igede National Youth Council on behalf of the entire Igede nation appreciates and congratulates the Idoma National Youth Forum for the bold step in fighting for equity and justice and taking a stand that will unite the people of Benue South Senatorial District (Zone C).
“That we join the Idoma National Youth Forum to ask that the Senate seat of Benue South Senatorial District be zoned to the Old Oju division in 2019.
“That the Igede National Youth Council also promises to work together with the Idoma National Youth Forum to mobilise support for any qualified Igede son or daughter of Old Oju who is willing to serve in this capacity.
“That the Igede National Youth Council, as a way of reciprocating this uncommon gesture of the Idoma National Youth Forum, promises to support the governorship aspirations of the Idoma ethnic group of Benue South Senatorial seat in 2019.
“That we enjoin all the elders of Idoma nation to harken to the voice of the Idoma Youths and work earnestly to ensure that only Igede sons and daughters are allowed to contest the Benue South Senatorial seat in 2019.
“That consequently, the Igede National Youth Council joins the Idoma National Youth Forum to call on all Igede political and traditional leaders to begin the process of shopping for a young man or woman of credible character of the Igede extraction to fill the Senatorial seat in 2019.
“That finally, we call on all youths and persons who have attained the ages of 18 years and above but are yet to have a voter card to go to INEC office within their localities to register themselves as their PVC is their power.”
