The House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Airforce, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu was absent at the event held to install 10 First Class Chiefs, despite being in Makurdi on Monday.
According to the federal lawmaker representing Oju/Obi federal constituency, he was not properly invited or informed the way it was befitting of his status.
He, however, admitted getting wind of the event that took place at IBB Square in Makurdi.
The lawmaker was also conspicuously absent at the Uje home of Adirahu Ny’Igede, Chief Oga Ero, where the Igede First Class royal father, one of the newly installed 10 chiefs received and hosted Igede sons and daughters as well as friends and well wishers who thronged the place to congratulate him.
When contacted, the newly elected Public Relations Officer of the Igede apex socio-cultural organization, Omi Ny’Igede, Mr. John Okpong, however, faulted the lawmaker’s claim that he was not properly invited.
According to Mr. Okpong, he sent an SMS invite to the lawmaker, adding that it was the same text message that he sent to all and sundry which elicited the mammoth crowd of Igede extraction that turned out at the IBB Square.
Okpong furnished jamesibechi.com with the copy of the invite thus, “Iam directed by HRH, Chief Oga Ero to inform you that HE, Gov Samuel Ortom will present Staff of Office to all the First Class Chiefs in Benue State on Monday, the 14th May, 2018 in Makurdi. Pls attend in person. Comrade John Okpong.”
