By James Ibechi
A little bit away from the hustle and bustle of the build up to 2019 elections, information reaching jamesibechi.com from the stable of Agba Descendants Foundation indicates that arrangements with Globacom Nigeria for the sponsorship of this year Igede Agba festivities are at the closing stage.
Acting President of the Foundation, Comr. Andyson Iji Egbodo, confirmed the news on phone today from his base in Oju.
He said this year’s event will surpass the record the Foundation set in 2016 when in collaboration with Oju/Obi LGCs and SEED Rehabilitation Foundation from Lagos and branded by MTN Nigeria, the entire Igede kingdom was held spellbound for three days.
Egbodo said the 2016 colourful event was not without dividends.
According to him, it ushered in Ode Emmanuel Medical Centre, Oju, that provided free healthcare services to the people for two weeks in 2017, establishment of Edexcel College of Health Sciences, which has well over 200 students from Benue and neighbouring Cross Rivers and Ebonyi states.
Egbodo said this year’s festival would not be left absolutely in the hands of the government for funding as efforts were being made assiduously to source for funds from private sector.
He disclosed that SEED Rehab Foundation, Globacom, Airtel Nigeria, Choice 93.3 FM, MIVA Farms, Heritage Farms, Obasanjo Farms, Benue State Ministry of Agriculture, Benue State Ministry of Arts and Culture, Edexcel Educational Consults, Alochu Foundation and Synergy Foundation, amongst others are coming in partnership with Agba Descendants Foundation for the organization of the year festival.
The most distinguishing feature of this year’s festival would be that the Royal father of the Igede people, His Royal Majesty, Oga Ero, is the chief host.
Egbodo said special features like farmers competition, Igede language competition, cooking competition, cultural dance competition and cultural carnival/Parade will feature in the festival, adding that early efforts were being made towards honouring deserving Agba sons and daughters from Benue and Cross Rivers States who “have contributed immensely to the good name of our fathers and preservation of the culture, values, norm and identity of the children of Agba worldwide.”
Comrade Egbodo pointed out that doors were very much opened to all the illustrious sons of Agba that want to partner with the organizers of the festival, saying however, that the National Secretariat of Omi Ny’Igede is one partnering organization.
