Senatorial hopeful, Sir (Dr) Isaac Akwuma Egboja has presented himself to a pressure group known as The Like Minds as an aspirant in the forthcoming General Elections, in the Benue South senatorial district.
Egboja addressed the group during its meeting that was held in Makurdi on Thursday.
The senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, tasked the group that consists mainly of Idoma and Igede political elders, on three-pronged area: need for the emergence of a strong leadership of the zone that will unite different individuals and interest groups, whose disunity has threatened the security, peace and development of Idomaland; second, the need for the zone to elect a leader who would be a bridge builder to cultivate first healthy relationship within the zone and, between Idoma, Igede people and their brothers and sisters in Zone A and B in the state; and third, the need for the Idoma, Igede people to look carefully to elect the next crop of representatives who are purposeful, experienced and can produce or sponsor bills or resolutions for the development of the area and the country at large, and not people that would just go and only “ be counting money” at the expense of the development of the senatorial district.
Dr. Egboja appealed to the gathering to look carefully, think differently at this time, to elect only correct people that the land needed for development in all ramifications of the word.
He, therefore, “humbly” appealed to the group to allow and support him to represent them at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly next year, to trickle down the right kind of development that the area needs, adding that Idoma governorship of the state is possible with him steering the ship of the political leadership of Zone C as a senator of the zone.
The group approved Egboja’s aspiration with a thunderous ovation.
Chief Mike Inalegwu, former chairman of Otukpo LG said that Egboja was detribalized and merited the support of the people of the area.
He said Egboja is a man who can go extra miles for the cause of Igede and Idoma people.
Other members of the group who took turns to respond, also spoke glowingly of the senatorial aspirant.
The verdict of the group led by Mathias Oyigeya as Chairman, apart from endorsing Dr. Egboja, resolved to put pressure on political parties to formally zone the senatorial seat to enable Egboja contest and win the seat, moreso that the zoning would favour him, for coming from Old Oju district.
Prominent members of the group who are also political parties stalwarts in the state and Nigeria attended the meeting.
They included Chief Mike Inalegwu, Chief Mike Iduma, Barr. Jacob Oguche, Prof. Jerry Agada, Hon. Otse Otokpa, Hon. Agbo Aboh, Hon. Patrick Aruta, Hon. Okpe Ona anfd Barr. Sam Ochijele, among others.
